President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred national honours on several prominent Nigerians in recognition of their contributions to democracy, human rights, literature, and national development, News360 Nigeria reports.

The awards were announced during the 2025 Democracy Day celebrations, held at a special t Session of the National Assembly on Wednesday, June 12.

Among the honourees is the late Kudirat Abiola, who was posthumously awarded the title of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) for her sacrifices as a pro-democracy activist and wife of the late MKO Abiola, widely regarded as the winner of the annulled 1993 presidential election.

Others recognised include former Attorney General Bola Ige (CFR), Afenifere leader Pa Reuben Fasoranti (CFR), and veteran journalist Bayo Onanuga (CON).

Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka and renowned columnist Prof. Olatunji Dare were both conferred with the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).

Also honoured were human rights lawyer Femi Falana (CON), rights activist and former senator Shehu Sani (CON), and Nurudeen Olowokere (CON) for his service to Nigeria’s democratic process.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Tinubu said the awards are a reflection of the country’s appreciation for individuals who have defended democracy and justice, often at great personal risk.

“These men and women have paid the price, used their voice, pen, and courage to shape the democratic space we now enjoy,” Tinubu stated.

Details of the awards and full citations are expected to follow.

Tell me why you won't love Mr President.

Don't forget the INEC chairman during June 12 was also Honoured with national honors.

This man is so strategic. By so doing, much noise will reduce. The man keeps making people quiet just a step at a time.

You can say that again.

I'm glad Mr President recognizes the tears and blood of those fallen heroes.

Just imagine the joy in the hearts of the families of these legends.

God bless Nigeria.

Give Yakub Mahmoud, INEC Chairman GCFR. The man that gets to decide our next political leaders

Another giveaway to his Yoruba kinsmen and women. Anthony Enahoro, Dan Suleiman, Balarabe Musa, Bagauda Kaltho, Ndubuisi Kanu, Margaret Ekpo, Frank Kokori, Alfred Rewane, and many others fought hard for this democracy but he chose to reward only his kinsmen, and Sani who recently declared for his 2027 ambition.

BAT is bad for Nigeria!
