May Day: Hunger, unemployment, insecurity real— Tinubu

According to him: “The theme demands our collective attention and serves as a stark reminder of the need to create an environment where every worker feels safe, valued, and empowered to contribute to the growth and prosperity of our nation. As your President, I assure you that this istration is committed to creating such an environment for the common good.”

On the economic hardship, he noted that while it is a global phenomenon, its effects on Nigerians are particularly severe.

Tinubu said: “I am aware of the peculiarities of the economic hardship Nigerians face—rising living costs, hunger, insecurity, unemployment, and the loss of livelihoods. These challenges are real and demand definitive solutions, which I am poised to address as your President.

G5 leader's here. I hope they talk to Tinubu in revamping the economy

Why would a kerosene-distributing Ikpeazu talk to ebilokan about revamping the economy that APC has killed since 2015 when Jonathan was made a one term president in favour of the old dictator who ebilokan called expired in 2011?

Did any of them employ teachers to make basic education free for all children while they were governor? Did any of them employ workers to make water available to all households?

They are just there to steal our money and share with themselves while we fight for the crumbs of our tribal system of power rotation and zoning.

Igboblog:
2019 : I Weep For Abians By Wisdom Nwedene (Must Read)

Written by Wisdom Nwedene

Yesterday, pictures of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu branded Tanker distributing free kerosene to people at Umunkpeyi and other locations circulated the social media space.

Many people were seen struggling to get the free kerosene from the tanker.

I was shocked and wept bitterly when I saw the pictures because this is no longer the Abia State I know before.

From Ikpeazu's moves by sharing free kerosene and money to Abians few days to Governorship election, it is crystal clear that he is aware that he has failed the people who entrusted him with power.

I also heard that Ikpeazu said that the dark days are over for the civil servants in Abia State and donated 10 million naira to them.

My question to the civil servants is, will Ikpeazu 10 million naira solve the pains and problems you have been through in the last three and half years?

Let me quickly recall that in the last three and half years, almost all the civil servants in every sector protested over non payments of their salaries.

Let me do flashback, in 2018, the staff of Abia State owned University teaching hospital, Aba protested and cursed Ikpeazu over non-payment of their 9months salary.

The demonstration was staged Inside the premises of the hospital.

Also, in of infrastructure, Ikpeazu has not done well.

Let me also draw your mind to the Osisoma Flyover being constructed by Ikpeazu for over three years now.

Despite his promise that the flyover will be completed in January 2019, the truth is that the project has been abandoned.

When it comes to good road, hospital, empowering the farmers, Ikpeazu has not delivered also.

I don't know any reason a true Abia State born should want Ikpeazu to return to the Government House when he has failed to deliver half of the promises he made in 2015.

If you come to Ebonyi State, you will see what Umahi did in of infrastructure . He built many flyovers, good roads and empowered farmers. That's what I expected Ikpeazu to do.

Let me make it clear that I'm not from Abia State and didn't receive a dime to pen down this article but as a journalist, I know it is imperative to speak against evils, injustice, hunger, etc when I see them.

The Federal Government says it has no intention to borrow from any local or foreign organisation with its removal of subsidy on petrol and exchange rate harmonisation.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Chief Wale Edun, revealed this at the end of the inaugural Federal Executive Council meeting on Monday in Abuja.

He said that the benefit of the subsidy removal would be ploughed back into various sectors aimed at boosting government revenue and improving the business environment for local and foreign investment.

Edun said that with the increased revenue from subsidy removal, various palliatives have been made available to cushion its effect on a short, medium and long-term basis.

He reiterated the President Bola Tinubu-led istration’s desire to bring back the economy from the wood it has found itself over time.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has withdrawn the alleged money laundering suit it filed at the Federal High Court against Lagos Speaker Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa.

Naija News understands that the anti-graft did not give any particular reason for its application for withdrawal.

Following the application to withdraw, Justice Nicholas Oweibo discharged the ‘lien/Post No Debit’ placed on Obasa’s three s in Standard Chartered Bank.

The s are (US Dollars) 0001852063; (Current) 0001852056 and (Saving) 5002309624.

The judge also set aside the ex-parte orders he made on September 15, 2020, which led to the freezing of the s.

Recall that the court on September 15, 2020, granted an interim order freezing Obasa’s s following the EFCC’s application in a suit marked FHC/LCS/1064/2020.

The agency had said it was investigating the Speaker for the alleged offences of conspiracy, diversion of funds, abuse of office and money laundering.

But Justice Oweibo, on August 16, 2023, heard the application to unfreeze the s in his chamber.

During the hearing, the EFCC was represented by Mr. Sulaiman I. Sulaiman, while Obasa was represented by Mr. Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN).

The EFCC lawyer told the court that the application to unfreeze the s was pursuant to Section 44(2)(K) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and Sections 26, 29 and 34 (1) of the EFCC (Establishment) Act, 2004, and under the court’s inherent jurisdiction.

Section 44 of the Constitution concerns constitutional rights to property.

Justice Oweibo held: “It is hereby ordered that an order is hereby granted to the respondent/applicant setting aside the ex-parte orders of this court made on the 15th day of September 2020 upon the ex-parte motion of the Applicant/ Respondent in relation the funds of the Respondent/Applicant domiciled in the s stated in the following schedule:

Subsidy removal: Tinubu backs Buhari, Falana condemns price hike

13th May 2016

A former Lagos State Governor and National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has described the decision of the President Buhari-led Federal Government to remove petrol subsidy as courageous.

The government, through the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, on Wednesday, announced the removal of the subsidy on petrol, pegging the upper limit at N145 per litre from N86.50k.

In a statement in Lagos on Thursday, Tinubu said though the decision was a difficult one, it would ultimately become beneficial to the generality of the people instead of enriching the pockets of a few Nigerians, who enjoyed the fraud of the subsidy regime.

How is ebilokan the best governor when you have the likes of Jakande, Ige, Onabanjo, Ambrose Ali and Ajasin of the 2nd Republic.

Is Reno sniffing what he accused ebilokan of selling in Chicago

Splashme:
The first civilian governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, on Tuesday, said that the cancellation of the Lagos metroline project in 1985 was a major mistake and disservice to many Nigerians.

Jakande spoke in Lagos during the launch of a book which chronicled his life in politics and journalism.

The book, entitled, ‘Jakande: Leadership in Action’ is written by Dr. Bola Olaosebikan, who told the audience at the event that the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), was not responsible for the cancellation of the project.

Jakande said, “Reflecting on the metroline project, I think it is a major disservice to many Nigerians. Imagine how many people would have benefitted. It would have made life easier and changed the face of transport in Lagos. Whoever cancelled it or gave the advice towards its cancellation didn’t do right.”

The former governor asked Nigerians not to vote for unserious leaders in the coming polls, saying the elections presented Nigerians with a good opportunity that should not be squandered.

Expressing the hope that Nigeria would soon overcome its developmental challenges, Jakande said hope would be actualised faster if credible people emerged as leaders in the next dispensation.

He said, “This book comes at a very auspicious time in Nigeria’s history as we need leaders who can act. We need leaders who would not compromise the standards of good governance. God has blessed this nation the most in Africa, although we have not reached where we should be; with the right leaders, Nigeria would overcome its challenges.”

Someone has done something as incredible as turning the environmental fortune of the entire FCT around with all his strength and vigour, rather than celebrate and make separate cases for the ones that still need to be done, you are here saying he's celebrating uncompleted road!

Fine, I know you would tell me he isn't doing all these with his personal money and I would ask if all the previous FCT ministers have ever been asked to do the projects with their personal money before for which they never saw the need to do all that Wike is now doing.

We must learn to appreciate good things and encourage these people to do more. I'm not a fan of any of them but when I see them performing, I appreciate their good works and cheer them on to do more.

Thank you

You should refresh your memory on what prioritising means.

If you’re not sure what it means then it’s pointless engaging further with you on this matter.

Like your guy that promised to remove fuel subsidy and retain the N187 price. Collect sense abeg

Ebilokan needs to collect sense more since he is incapable of even managing the bad situation handed over to him by his clueless predecessor. Rather he has made everything worse with his own exemplary incompetence and corruption in just two years.

How could 20 million smart Lagosians allow themselves to be held captive for 26 years by such an incompetent leader looter

Don't blame him. they hardly see good things as a result of their state of mind

Can you see the good things in prioritising uncompleted roads instead of employing workers and paying them well to make water available in the federal capital territory of the giant of Africa

Commissioning left right and centre yet no improvements in the welfare and lives of citizens

Oshiomhole’s Association of Past Crooks, APC is only interested in using the commissioning of uncompleted projects to hide their stealing, corruption and fraud schemes.

They are not interested in the welfare and lives of 200 million Nigerians. This is why they are mocking us for the extreme poverty created by their policies of corruption and incompetence.

Don't detract from the question.

As an assignment...google for the article the books and hold the oil, and then work within your party to get those ideas implemented.

I am not God, and I cannot decide whether Ogechi or Maimuna is better for you, whether you should eat at The Place or Sheraton tonight, or answer this your question. I have told you why we are a mess, and explained why I think the way I think.

How did I ask you to decide anything for me?

I simply asked you:

Which one of the two parties has the better economic record and policies to do what you want

Are you capable and willing to answer?

And then there was the 1973-82 period. Economy looked great.

But at the end, it was an illusion fuelled by high oil prices, just as your PDP economy of 2009-14. (I know you won't like this, and you will think I am defending APC, but bear with me before you get annoyed).

Venezuela too had a boom economy in the 1970's. Caracas was a happening town. Then the oil price fell in 1982, and by 1984, Venezuelans were eating from the refuse dump.

Same thing happened between 2007-14, and now the country is in a mess too.

And I doubt that tinubu was running the country during the lean times.

My mission on this site for you APC and you PDP ers, because you both play for the same team, just different factions....is simple. Strong nations use what they have to make stuff the world needs. Weak nations just sell resources, just sell oil

But you are so convinced I am defending tinubu, that you miss the main point.

Ah well, at the end, you want PDP back. Well, I don't want PDP or APC back, just a government that would take us off oil, because our oil depdnency always leaves us vulnerable when the prices drop.

Shame on Ruben abati , abati failed as spoke man of Jonathan completely. The worst spoke man in history

Is it a bigger shame or is it a smaller shame that Wike kicked out Obi from PDP to help ebilokan get his Aso Rock reward for making his (Wike’s) own political benefactor a one term president?

How could ebilokan replace Jonathan in 2015 with someone who he called expired soldier four years earlier? How could he have done that

2023: PDP and politics of healing Wike’s self-inflicted injury

Then, the race began in earnest for three years now, reaching a frenzy with the works of the two PDP committees on zoning. The first was the Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi committee on the zoning of the PDP party offices. The Ugwuanyi committee quickly told the world the committee’s assignment did not cover zoning the office of the president. Though this was true, the question is: why didn’t the Ugwuanyi committee zone the PDP chairmanship to the North without aligning it to the divide that would produce the PDP presidential flag-bearer? The second committee headed by Gov Samuel Ortom of Benue state was specifically on the zoning of the presidential ticket and, with the votes of the representatives of all the 17 Southern states without any exception, the Committee unanimously recommended throwing open the PDP presidential ticket, which the PDP NEC simply upheld.

One thing irrefutably stands out – Wike shot himself in the leg. Here was a man who had an overarching influence on both committees but could not insist that the ticket be zoned South. Many had wondered why? The reason is also relatively in plain sight: the Southeast factor. As the clamour for zoning of the presidential ticket of the PDP to South reached its crescendo, many had pointed out the fact that though the PDP Constitution had prescribed zoning of the office of the president to be between North and South since the South-west and South-south had taken their turns in producing the president and the vice in this current dispensation in the persons of Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, zoning this time around, should not just be to the South but the Southeast.

Atiku Abubakar went a step further by offering to step down from the race if it would be agreed that the touted zoning to the South would mean micro-zoning to the Southeast. Wike and the rest could not take the Atiku challenge maybe because Atiku would likely back Peter Obi, who was his vice-presidential running mate in 2019 and an ally. The prospects of Peter Obi picking the ticket if PDP zoned South was so real compelling Wike to go for an open contest, believing he could pick it up ahead of Atiku, Tambuwal and Bala Mohammed, given his large war chest.

The only way to crash the exchange rate is to develop an economy based on the export of manufactred goods and services...not just refined products.

We won't see a stronger naira...and Lord knows, I have been hearing about the naira's weakness since the 1980's...until we export things like radios, cars, cutlery, televisions, etc...that were made in Nigeria.

The problem is, we have built an economy, since independence, that has been based on exporting raw materials and sharing the money.

Your PDP that you are praising, the reason why people were fooled by APC was that they were angry that the naira was weak....and had fallen from N1 to 1 dollar in 1978 to N120 by 2012. APC even made matters worse because instead of using 2015 as a new start...they chose to ramp up the borrowing....because they did not want to make hard and unpopular but MUCH NEEDED reforms to our economy.

And then you Nigerians want stuff for free. Cheap fuel, cheap electricity, cheap everything. Abi e no cost money make these things?

Anyway, if PDP wins tomorrow, they cannot reverse the decline of the naira, and if Tinubu rules till 2041, he cannot reverse the decline of the naira, until people and leaders wake up and realize what china did to go from being behind SIerra Leone in gdp in 1974 to lending to SIerra Leone today.

Wale Edun knows something about privatisation and deregulation focused capitalist PDP that you don’t know.

Was Dangote refinery licensed by PDP’s Jonathan as part of the 2012 deregulation of the petroleum downstream sector that Fayemi and APC played politics with, so as to jeopardise the economic wellbeing of 200 million Nigerians?

How long did it take Glo to crash the prices of telecom services after PDP’s deregulation of the market? Definitely not up to 13 years, which is how many years now since the 2012 protests were led by Buhari’s 2011 running mate, pastor Tunde Bakare.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Chief Olawale Edun has said the last time Nigeria’s economy looked stable was about a decade ago.

He made this statement during his maiden press conference as Minister of Finance where he outlined President Bola Tinubu’s vision, agenda and strategy for the economy.

He said, “I think as we all know, we are not where we should be. The economy is barely growing above the rate of population growth.

“But it was not always so, and I think in trying to look at the way forward, if we now have a situation of slow growth, double-digit inflation, weak/depreciating exchange rate, as well as security concerns that are resulting in an economy that is not growing and not taking Nigerians out of poverty.

“If we think back to the last time when the economy was stable- when it was growing, when inflation was low, and the interest rate was affordable, that period was about a decade ago. Growth was about 6% in 2013 and 2014.”

Two days before the PDP primary, having realised the body language of the stakeholders that it wanted to give the party’s ticket to moneybags, Obi resigned from the PDP over what he called “issues that are at variance with my persona and principles” and ed the Labour Party (LP)

If Obi has any governing principles why did he allow himself to be chased out of privatisation and deregulation capitalist PDP into the communist LP labourers camp by Wike, who was only working for ebilokan’s easy access to continue APC shege of corruption, incompetence, inflation, poverty, unemployment, underemployment, insecurity etc?
