This is good News! No be everyone supposed become parents. 🤔
What do u know about parenting?
U want them to keep raising the child in an environment where u can discipline the child and then u have teenage gangs and he was already having "an unhealthy interest in knives" .. the parents should make sure that boy stays in Ghana under a disciplinarian uncle and go to a day School not boarding school.. what sort of useless system is England running for a court to be considering giving a child independence ?

In this current economic reality, any salary below 1m can only make you comfortable not rich. You will need a lot of financial discipline to achieve something meaningful like buying land, car or building your house. By financial discipline,it means you are involved in monthly contribution. To the other guy who believed 650k job is not existing, may God change your story in Jesus name. Poverty is a curse.

The govs are happy with Tinubu
He has increased their allocations to unprecedented levels
The senators are beyond the moon with this govt. Their constituency allocations is now in billions
And the judiciary, they've never had it this good. More houses than they can live in and rain of funds too much for their pockets
So who are these Nigerians they are talking about? Those must be in the minority. Probably from that tiny dot
Majority of Nigerians have never had it so good

Sir I'm a Nigerian. This is my real name. I've been quite open. Who are you and what gives you the credibility that I can believe?

I know the rewards...and risk....of real estate in Nigeria and the USA. I've lived between both countries for 30 years and owned real estate in both places as far back as 1993.

My summary is that real estate gains more value in the USA, UK and Anglo-Western countries than Nigeria. Also dollar has gained more value in Nigeria than Nigerian real estate. My pocket is my witness. That’s what I know and I challenge you to either use official data or your own experience to measure it. You can come to no other conclusion.
Good Luck to Nigeria.
If you consider what Mrs ibukun awosika (former chair of FBN ltd) said about the land she bought for 11m (total building -75M ) in 2001 now being worth some billions some 23 yrs later and compare to usd rate of 80-100 then and 1,600 now.. it is very clear real estate is the winner !!
Usd rate is a factor of 20 at best, her real estate is at least a factor of 100!!!!
U said 30 yrs...her experience is within 23 yrs!

Yup...

Medium-term to long-term investment by High-Networth Individuals in a basket of currencies and/or diversification in USD-denominated asset portfolios is the key here.
Before we can accept your conclusion, we need to accept your assumptions.. it is impossible for a 60M naira house bought in early 2000s to be worth just 80M in 2022 except due to some serious impairment of the property.. a more reasonable amount would be at least a very conservative N300M... consequently, rental income could not have been 2M throughout .. at some point it would have been 5M, 8M even 10M

And how many deaths in the USA are due to gun violence ?- 100 per day!!! U give guns to people and they just shoot randomly & thoughtlessly and can easily go scotfree with our low rate legal system? Don't create another endless monster cos of one.
Rather the state govts affected should be serious and empower armed local vigilantes like Akeredolu & Fayose did and task their senate representatives to hold able the FG & the security agencies!!
Ruke1990:
The advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Just like Russia, China and USA have weapons of mass destruction but none dares attack each other first for fear of Mutually Assured Destruction

South Africa, Israel and Turkey where gun is legalized - on a daily basis do not record up to half of the numbers of death recorded in Nigeria from ritual killings, boko haram, Fulani millitants, yahoo killings, unknown gunmen, criminal police forces, etc

And all criminals in Nigeria have unfettered access to guns both terrorist, cultists, armed robbers, ritual killers. The govt doesn't make effort to arrest them or prevent them from accessing guns. So only psychologically stable and normal law keeping citizens do not have gun

It is too much of a sacrifice to go through all that, not having a life just for a so called future of your children, raising them in an environment of very little discipline and wrong gender definitions
crusufixo:

What most peeps dont know is that the japa is for the future of the kids, not the Adults. The kids would have a better chance growing into the system than the adults who are already fully grown.hence, even if it is to sweep the roads to ensure that the kids remain in Uk, the parents / adults would do it. Any full grown adults that think that he / she is travelling abroad to become rich is just making a grievous mistake. The actual context of travelling abroad is to provide an opportunity for their family.....

See, d fact remains is there is a high risk that an investment in that line doesnt yield returns esp if the investor is not the one managing the business

The naira is weak because of low oil production and lower oil price in addition to the loans and also increased import demand due to increased population &taste

I agree with some of the reasoning in ur original post but not the assertions..
For instance, would it hurt if we dont import at all and produced every cloth and food we needed for everybody even if at higher selling price.. and we still exported oil... would there be any hurt on the economy ? So u see import must be checked else import (demand) can grow to a level to which export cannot match esp if local industry is low
mrvitalis:

Firstly that's a big lie at the bolded

Our trde deficit has always been between +4 billion to -4 billion dollars

If you add foreign remittance it has always been positive

India has always had negative trde deficit

Your naira is weak not from import.. But loans your government take

Or hiked electricity rates or university school fees? Or the over 200% increase in food prices and rent ?

Btw to those saying Trump caused all these... he did not - he might have worsened it though... there have been at least 170.fatal crashes in the USA per year since 2023!.. it is a systemic failure.. an emergency needs to be declared in that sector

I don't agree.. a school can be entirely free and a person of the calibre of Zuckerberg can most definitely run A free school all her life... is it not a finite amt that is spent? Is it up to $10m/annum.. pple that are centibillionaires..
nairalanda1:

cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy

I'm not making fun of you, I am just laughing at the concept of free school

IN America, Priscilla, Mark Zuckerberg's wife, set up a free school. EVERYONE was welcome, she employed very good teachers, and a lot of students ed through that school, rich and poor. Many benefited (one rich celeb who enrolled her child there said her child had thrived in the school).

After over ten years, she closed the school. Reason, it was draining the money. Her money, her husband's money.

Nothing like free school. You still have to pay taxes, pay teachers salaries, pay for books and equipment, and pay for maintenance. And unless you got a bottomless pit of money, or you have a foundation where rich people are donating billions in dollars and euros, you cannot run a free school. School dey cost money. At the end, you go charge fees, or you will drain your money sponsoring the school, or you will cose it down.

Well. U are right about going for a masses oriented party and all that... but I dont agree that it's d son of nobody that can uplift this country... majority of our current politicians are children of nobody, even activists like oshiomole but see what they have become...
Eriokanmi:
I know say na pressure cause am. The caption was misleading,as if he did so willing. No politician will do that in Nigeria, not even muda himself.

To all of you on nairaland dying over these guys, shebi you can see how they're hijacking your position and future from you before your korokoro eyes and giving it to their children? Keep it up. grin

When I put labour party upon my head ahead of 2023 elections, a lot of you even called me unpritable names. You need a grassroots-based, masses-oriented party to belong, in order to have your voice heard. These politicians don't send your papa, including tinubu himself. All of you can see what his son has turned himself into lately. Who says you too can't become wards counsellor, LG Chairman of your state, even governor? A lot were drooling over seyi Tinubu's rumoured interest in lagos guber months ago, when you too aren't born differently.

It doesn't have to be LP but any party that focuses on grassroots development cos youths have the number, they don't. Stop getting paid peanuts by these guys in order to steal your future . Nigeria isn't America where the son of nobody like Obama can become somebody. We're far from that level. Only God can make such happen here and your determination to become somebody cos there are wolves and hyenas who are ready to eliminate you before you near that place. Your fork has to be very long to be able dine with them. Why didn't mudasiru obasa pick one of those defending him here or in agege, why his son? You can answer that question yourself. Stop being sycophants when you too can actually lead. 8 of the youths I know are councillors in alimosho under LP. Dem don start their career be dat. Apc candidates endorsed by obas lost woefully. My barber is one of the councillors.

2027 is not far again, gather yourselves, a less popular party, mobilise the youths and make your good programme known. We've seen candidates who were screened out by apc and pdp but contested under LP and won, stressfree. There were several children of nobody who defeated the almighty apc and pdp candidates, those endorsed by governors, senators, even obas or obis in their constituencies but lost woefully to LP candidates across the country. You don't have to spend money. People will contribute for you, just be sincere and genuine with your plans.

Only children of nobody can govern Nigeria and deliver on promises not all these politicians whose children have been initiated into various cults. Obasa doesn't stay in his constituency in agege. He lives on the island with his family but you are in agege for example. You know what's happening around you and where development is needed. Muda's son.does not. He didn't even school here. They'd kill your voice and do the bidding of their parents and godfathers if you keep worshipping them. Nigeria is tly owned. Don't be surprised one day when you see the son of MC oluomo coming from America to contest oshodi-isolo LG Chairmanship post. Wetin do you?

Enough said

For her, she is a lady and u need to consider that her time must not be wasted.. so it's either a marriage in sight or release her to go!
Now, for u, do u love her greatly, do u think u can easily get someone like her and that in canada? Do u think it might not be easy to get someone like her in canada? If so, i think u should just plan towards marrying her late next yr..that's still almost 2 yrs but at least she has something definite and u should have finished schooling by then. U should possibly think of relocating to the usa.. whatever it is, u should be able to weather the storm together (without children) for some time.
Xavier0978:
Hey guys,

Please, I need your opinion on this issue. So I’ve known my girlfriend since NYSC 2019, and ever since then, we’ve been best of friends. I travelled out in 2022, but we still kept in touch and from there we started dating. I’m 29 and she’s also 29. Honestly, I have plans to settle down and marry her when things are right.

A quick note: she’s been trying to come over to meet me as a student ever since I got here, but for one reason or the other it hasn’t worked out (Canada visa rejections and all). Now, she’s talking about how she plans to settle down before her next birthday and even suggested that I marry her while she waits in Nigeria for a maximum of two years before ing me. She really just wants to get married.

To be honest, I currently work and I’m also doing another master’s program in a very reputable institution here in Canada, and I will be done this year. The stress of working and schooling is a lot, and my current workplace pays the barest minimum. I literally have nothing left after sorting out all my bills and expenses. I’m not financially ready to settle down right now, and I even gave her a timeline of two years. Worst case, no matter what, we’ll settle down in two years max. Let me try and fix things for myself here. I can’t marry and bring someone’s daughter here to come and suffer.

I’m a worried person. My dreams are really big and God knows I’m working tirelessly to achieve them. She also knows because I discuss everything with her. Honestly, I understand her point of view, but I’m the kind of person that gets really anxious easily. It would kill me to get married, have kids, and not be able to cater for them.

I know you can’t have everything financially before settling down, but I want at least a moderately stable job. One that allows me to take care of her confidently even if she comes over and doesn’t work immediately. To be honest, my job pay is very low, like unimaginably low, and I’m just barely surviving. I’ve pictured every possible scenario, thinking and planning ahead, but everything is pointing to one answer — I’m not ready.

Considering her age and the kind of person she is, I strongly believe that after marriage she will want kids and to start building a family. That’s not a bad thing, but I, as a man, don’t want to get stuck in that life yet because I know the kind of future I envision. I’ve always promised myself that I won’t raise a family on “manage-manage.” I feel like if I get married now and start raising a family, my focus will shift entirely to making sure they live well, which could make me lose track of my personal goals.

I swear, I know my girlfriend loves me. That’s not in doubt. But I’ve been pleading with her to give me at least two more years. If after that things are still not great, then we’ll settle down and manage until something better comes.

Right now, to be honest, I don’t even have anything financially to plan a small wedding, and I definitely won’t borrow or ask anyone for financial to do a wedding.

Please, I want your honest opinion. The two options here are: either get married before this time next year or end the relationship now, as there are other people already asking for her hand in marriage.

That will be the loan company's loss... You cannot assume liability for something just because someone used your name & BVN. Legally speaking, there is no valid contract with you because it can be proven it wasn't you that took the loan. You ARE NOT ur BVN or phone number
If a loan house tries to recover the loan from your other bank s, they can be sued.. this is why loan houses must have tight systems in place to ensure they get the identity of their customers right

tunnyl:
Ever gotten weird calls about repaying a loan you never took? Or worse—money vanishing from your ? Welcome to the BVN scam, where fraudsters borrow loans linked to your identity without you knowing.

🔥 How It Works:

> Someone opens a fintech using your BVN (without your consent).

> The system links it to your existing bank profile.

> Over time, they build loan credit and borrow big.

> They vanish. Guess who gets chased for repayment? YOU.

🔑 How to Protect Yourself:

✅ Keep your BVN & NIN private—don’t share with anyone.
âś… Check your bank & fintech profiles for suspicious activity.
âś… Turn on security alerts and enable two-factor authentication (2FA).
âś… Report any weird transactions ASAP to your bank.

🔴 Stay alert. Guard your identity. Don’t let fraudsters wreck your finances!
