Aiteo Cup Final: Baylesa United Beat Nasarawa United, Clinch First Title

Bayelsa United won the Aiteo Cup for the first time edging out Nasarawa United 4-3 on penalties at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City on Sunday night, reports Completesports.com.

The highly entertaining game ended in a 2-2 draw in regulation time.

Inikurogha Okardi gave Baylesa United the lead in the 19th minute.

Chinedu Ohanachom however equalised for Nasarawa United within seconds.

Emo James scored the second goal for Bayelsa United, while Aliyu Abdullahi netted Nasarawa United’s second of the evening.

Both teams failed to a goal after the break.

Bayelsa United are now the second team from the second tier to win the FA Cup after defunct Dolphins Football Club of Port Harcourt claimed the title in 2011.

They will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.

It was because the match was played at a neutral venue. That's why we could get a fair result.

My cousin is a player at bayelsa united. Very good kid. But I wonder why Nigeria league matches always end in the home team winning or drawing. Rarely would you see away team taking a point.

So excited for my state team, at least we use this one hold body. In times past, Bayelsa used to have 2 teams in the premier division until Seriake istration spoiled every single sector of the economy in the State. I wish this is a stepping stone to greater things, and hopefully seeing Bayelsa united in the NPFL soon.

Played in Benin

Dreadful pitch (maybe due to the downpour)

Dreadful officiating (from the linesman only , the lady In the middle -main ref- really impressed me) The two goals from nassarawa United were offside -though both were expertly taken goals-

The NASSARAWA United coach abi bayelsa (the one on coat not suit but coat) was so shabbily dressed If I saw him outside I’d dash hi 200 Naira to hold body.

In all an exciting game devoid of tactical discipline from either side.

Until a real well organized , privately run soccer team is established in Lagos forget story of our league developing.

If Enyimba couldn’t cause a change in how Other Nigerian clubs are run then forget it
