Chief Ejeagha died on Friday, June 6, 2025, at an Enugu hospital at the age of 95.

Speaking to the press, Emma Ejeagha explained that the folklore legend had given strict instructions before his death that his body should not be embalmed.

“My father sternly instructed me as his first son that when he ed on, nobody should embalm him,” he said.

The highlife icon was laid to rest on Saturday, June 7, in his country home at Umuagba, Imezi-Owa, in Ezeagu Council Area of Enugu State.

“I ed of my family and informed them that my father made a wish that he should be laid to rest 24 hours after his death,” he added.

“I also summoned a meeting of my kindred and we discussed extensively. Even Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu State was informed about it, and they all consented that whatever was his wish should be kept.

A man that understood that fame ends on earth. He didn't want his family to go through the stress of raising money for an expensive funeral.

Most elderly people who are rooted in tradition always instruct their people to never put them in mortuary. He is now dancing gwo gwo ngwo with his ancestors.

His family will later do the complete burial celebration.
It's a celebration of life, and he deserved it.
I'm sure they're prepared for it.

RIP Pa Mike.

I sincerely think this should be the way to go. Once a person is pronounced dead by a certified medical practitioner, there's no point keeping the corpse.
