INTERNATIONAL WRITERS ASSOCIATION MOURNS NGŨGĨ WA THIONG’O The International Writers Association (IWA) has expressed profound grief over the ing of globally celebrated Kenyan writer and thinker, Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o. The revered literary icon, whose works spanned decades of intellectual, cultural, and political resistance, ed away leaving behind an unmatched legacy of courage, creativity, and commitment to African liberation through literature. In a statement issued by Wole Adedoyin, Acting President of the International Writers Association, the Association described Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o as a fearless literary revolutionary who redefined the place of language, identity, and decolonization in African literature. “Ngũgĩ was more than a writer—he was a movement, a conscience, and a symbol of intellectual independence for Africa,” the statement read. Born in 1938 in colonial Kenya, Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o emerged as one of Africa’s most influential literary figures. His novels, essays, plays, and academic work explored themes of oppression, resistance, language, and cultural identity. From Weep Not, Child to Decolonising the Mind, his works inspired generations of writers, students, and political activists around the world. Ngũgĩ’s decision to abandon writing in English in favour of his native Gikuyu marked a bold and transformative moment in African literature. His belief that African writers should express themselves in African languages challenged the postcolonial literary establishment and emphasized the importance of cultural self-determination. “The International Writers Association acknowledged with reverence the courage Ngũgĩ displayed in choosing prison over silence and exile over compromise. He showed us all that the pen can indeed be mightier than the sword,” Wole Adedoyin noted. Ngũgĩ’s imprisonment in the late 1970s and subsequent exile did not dampen his literary fire; instead, it strengthened his resolve to use writing as a tool for truth and transformation. Throughout his lifetime, Ngũgĩ received numerous awards and honorary doctorates in recognition of his contributions to literature and human rights. Yet, he remained grounded in the African cause, often stating that he wrote not for glory but to amplify the struggles and hopes of ordinary people. The International Writers Association urged young and emerging writers to study Ngũgĩ’s works and follow his example of purposeful and principled writing. His life reminds us that literature is not only about aesthetics but also about advocacy, agency, and action. He taught us that language is a vessel of power and memory and that every writer has a role in shaping the destiny of their society. As the world mourns the ing of this literary titan, the International Writers Association called for a renewed commitment to the ideals Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o lived for—cultural pride, linguistic liberation, and fearless storytelling. His voice may be silent, but his words will forever echo in the halls of history and hearts of readers.

APGA CALLS FOR IMPROVED WELFARE AND WORKING CONDITIONS FOR OSUN WORKERS The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has expressed deep concern over the welfare of workers in the state, calling on the Osun State Government to prioritize the needs and aspirations of civil servants and public workers. This was contained in a press statement issued on Thursday by the Chairman of the Party, Wole Adedoyin, and made available to newsmen in Osogbo. According to the statement, APGA recognizes and appreciates the indispensable role that Osun workers play in the istration and development of the state. Without the hard work, loyalty, and sacrifice of civil servants, governance would grind to a halt, and public service delivery would be severely impaired. The party noted that while workers across the country face similar challenges, the plight of Osun workers demands special attention. Delayed salaries, pension arrears, poor working environments, and lack of adequate motivation have continued to diminish the morale of workers in the state. “Osun workers deserve better,” Adedoyin said. “It is unacceptable that in 2025, workers still struggle with irregular salary payments, inadequate housing, and insufficient health coverage. This is a violation of their rights and a breach of trust between the government and its employees.” APGA called on the state government to implement a comprehensive worker-friendly policy that includes prompt payment of salaries and pensions, professional training opportunities, and improved infrastructure in public offices. According to the party, a motivated workforce is the bedrock of any successful istration. The party also urged the state government to engage directly with workers' unions and associations to identify critical areas of need and to ensure a participatory approach to policy-making regarding labor and employment matters. APGA used the opportunity to salute the resilience and patriotism of Osun workers, especially teachers, health professionals, law enforcement officers, and local government staff, who continue to discharge their duties in the face of adversity. “Your commitment to the state does not go unnoticed,” the statement read. Wole Adedoyin reaffirmed APGA's commitment to the protection of workers’ rights, stressing that the party’s philosophy—Be Your Brother and Sister’s Keeper—would remain its guiding principle in standing with the workforce of Osun State.

WHY APGA IS THE ONLY AUTHENTIC PROGRESSIVE PARTY IN NIGERIA By Wole Adedoyin – APGA Osun Chairman The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has again reiterated its position as the only authentic progressive political party in Nigeria. With a strong ideological foundation, a credible leadership structure, and a developmental governance model in Anambra State, APGA has remained committed to the true principles of progressivism, which include equity, social justice, grassroots development, and inclusive governance. The party maintains that, unlike others who only pay lip service to progressivism, APGA walks the talk. The party’s National Chairman, Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, has consistently protected and promoted the general interest of the party since assuming office. His leadership style, which is anchored on transparency, inclusiveness, and innovation, has repositioned APGA as a party of the people. He has defended the core values of APGA and worked tirelessly to ensure that the party remains a beacon of hope to Nigerians seeking credible alternatives to the dominant political hegemony. Under Barr. Ezeokenwa’s watch, APGA has experienced improved internal cohesion and renewed commitment from its across the country. The party has also expanded its reach beyond the South-East, engaging more Nigerians and spreading its message of people-oriented governance. Ezeokenwa has introduced several istrative and structural reforms that have modernized party operations and inspired trust in its leadership. The achievements of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo in Anambra State serve as living testimony of what APGA stands for. Since taking over the mantle of leadership, Governor Soludo has pursued a people-driven agenda anchored on economic transformation, infrastructure renewal, education reform, and environmental sustainability. These tangible achievements confirm that APGA delivers where it governs. One of the first remarkable achievements of Governor Soludo was the Anambra Urban Regeneration Project, which has significantly transformed Awka and other urban centres in the state. The project has improved road networks, enhanced urban aesthetics, and reduced traffic congestion. This development effort clearly aligns with APGA’s progressive ideology of modernizing infrastructure for economic prosperity. In the area of education, Governor Soludo has employed over 5,000 teachers across the state to tackle the human resource gap in schools. This massive recruitment drive is one of the boldest interventions in the state’s education sector in recent history. Soludo has also implemented reforms to improve teaching quality, curriculum relevance, and digital literacy among students. On health, Soludo has embarked on the rehabilitation and equipping of general hospitals and primary health centres across the 21 local government areas. This move is aimed at ensuring accessible and affordable healthcare for all Anambra citizens. The istration has also introduced a health insurance scheme to widen the coverage and reduce out-of-pocket expenditure for poor families. Environmental sustainability has not been left out. Governor Soludo’s “Clean, Green, and Sustainable Anambra” campaign has taken root, with regular desilting of drainages, tree planting, and waste management reforms. The campaign is already yielding results as flood risks have been minimized, and the state’s sanitation ranking has improved significantly. In of security, the Soludo-led APGA government has forged strong alliances with security agencies and local vigilante groups to combat criminal elements. These efforts have significantly reduced violent crimes, kidnapping, and cultism in many parts of the state. The istration’s investments in technology-driven security have also strengthened intelligence gathering and response time. Economically, Soludo has initiated programs that micro, small, and medium-scale enterprises (MSMEs), agricultural cooperatives, and youth entrepreneurship. The “One Youth, Two Skills” initiative aims to equip thousands of young people with technical and vocational skills needed for self-employment, which is crucial in a country battling youth unemployment. These achievements stress the progressive governance model of APGA. It is not just a party that seeks power; it is a party that empowers people. Its record in Anambra State is a clear demonstration of its capacity to provide purposeful leadership and foster real development. It shows that APGA has the solutions to Nigeria’s myriad challenges, if given the chance. Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa, as National Chairman, deserves commendation for defending the sanctity of the party's structures and remaining firm in upholding internal democracy. Under his watch, APGA has remained focused, united, and visionary. He has ensured that the party is not hijacked by self-serving politicians, thereby preserving its ideological purity. Ezeokenwa’s emphasis on capacity building, digital transformation, and grassroots mobilization has improved party engagement at all levels. He has also shown irable diplomatic skills in interfacing with other political stakeholders and electoral institutions, always putting the interest of the party and its first. At a time when most political parties are torn apart by factionalism, opportunism, and lack of ideology, APGA remains an oasis of order, vision, and people-centeredness. The party has remained consistent in its philosophy of being its brother’s and sister’s keeper—an ideology deeply rooted in African communal values and social justice. Moreover, APGA’s ideology of inclusive politics has given voice to underrepresented groups, especially women and youth. The party continues to advocate for gender parity and has reserved leadership positions for young people, which makes it the most youth-friendly party in the country today. APGA’s history and legacy also affirm its commitment to true progressivism. Founded on the ideals of the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, the party was established to offer Nigerians a genuine alternative rooted in integrity, justice, and people-first leadership. These ideals still guide the party’s decisions and actions today. Nigerians are tired of recycled politicians and broken promises. What they need is a party that is tested, trusted, and transformative. APGA fits this description perfectly. It is the only party in Nigeria with a visible and verifiable record of progressive governance and development impact. The party has also proven that it is not driven by ethnic or regional agenda but by national interest. This is evident in its pan-Nigerian outreach, policy initiatives, and developmental strides. It is ready to extend its success in Anambra to other states and regions across Nigeria. As the 2027 general elections approach, Nigerians must begin to look beyond the usual political suspects and embrace a party with a credible vision and proven leadership. APGA represents the best hope for a new Nigeria—one built on equity, competence, and collective prosperity. In conclusion, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) remains the only authentic progressive party in Nigeria today. Its track record in Anambra State, visionary leadership under Governor Charles Soludo, and the principled stewardship of Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa are testimonies to this truth. The party stands ready to offer Nigeria the leadership it so desperately needs. The time has come for Nigerians to choose progress, and APGA is that progressive choice.

PWAN URGES PRESIDENT TINUBU TO APPOINT A YORUBA MAN AS NEXT INEC CHAIRMAN The Progressive Writers Association of Nigeria (PWAN) has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure the appointment of a Yoruba man as the next National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the tenure of the current chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, comes to an end in December 2025. The association emphasized the need for fairness, equity, and national balance in the leadership of the country’s electoral body. In a statement signed by its President, Wole Adedoyin, PWAN highlighted that since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999, no Yoruba individual has been appointed to head INEC. The leadership of the commission has historically been dominated by individuals from other regions of the country, leaving the Yoruba ethnic group unrepresented at the helm of the electoral body. The association cited the names of past INEC Chairmen, including Ephraim Akpata (1998–2000), Abel Guobadia (2000–2005), Maurice Iwu (2005–2010), Attahiru Jega (2010–2015), and the outgoing chairman, Mahmood Yakubu (2015–present), none of whom were of Yoruba descent. This trend, PWAN argues, undermines the principle of inclusivity in national leadership and must be corrected in the forthcoming appointment. PWAN stressed that the Yoruba ethnic group has produced highly competent and experienced professionals who are capable of handling the responsibilities of the INEC Chairman. The association expressed confidence that President Tinubu, being a Yoruba leader himself, understands the importance of national inclusivity and will take the necessary steps to ensure justice in the selection process. Furthermore, the association pointed out that fairness in national appointments fosters unity and strengthens democracy. It argued that ensuring a Yoruba man is appointed as INEC Chairman would not only correct historical imbalances but also reassure all ethnic groups of their stake in Nigeria’s governance structure. PWAN also called on civil society organizations, political stakeholders, and the general public to this call for fairness. The association emphasized that Nigeria's democracy can only thrive when all regions and ethnic groups are given equal opportunities to contribute to national development. The association reiterated that its demand is not based on ethnic sentiment but on the need for equitable representation in national institutions. It noted that every Nigerian, regardless of ethnicity, deserves an equal opportunity to serve at the highest levels of governance, including in electoral management. As preparations begin for the appointment of the next INEC Chairman, PWAN urged President Tinubu to prioritize competence, experience, and integrity while also ensuring regional balance. It maintained that the Yoruba people have demonstrated commitment to democracy and governance in Nigeria and should be given a chance to lead the commission.

CGN REJECTS REMITA SUSPENSION, DEMANDS REINSTATEMENT The Computer Guild of Nigeria (CGN) has strongly condemned the recent suspension of Remita, an indigenous payment solution, from the Treasury Single (TSA) by the Federal Government (FG). This was contained in a press release issued by the President of the Guild, Wole Adedoyin, who described the decision as a setback for Nigeria’s financial technology sector and a discouragement to indigenous innovation. According to the statement, the suspension of Remita raises serious concerns about the government’s commitment to promoting local technology solutions and reducing dependence on foreign financial systems. CGN emphasized that Remita has played a critical role in ensuring the seamless operation of the TSA, improving financial transparency, and blocking revenue leakages in public finance management. The Guild noted that Remita, developed by a Nigerian company, has proven to be a reliable and efficient platform for electronic payment processing, facilitating billions of naira in government transactions. Its suspension, therefore, could disrupt financial operations and undermine the progress made in digital payment systems within the public sector. Wole Adedoyin urged the Federal Government to reconsider its decision and provide clear justifications for the suspension. He further called for a transparent review process to determine any possible concerns with the system rather than outrightly sidelining a homegrown technological solution that has contributed immensely to Nigeria’s financial sector. The statement further criticized the government’s inconsistent policies on technology adoption, arguing that the lack of for indigenous solutions weakens Nigeria’s digital economy. CGN warned that such actions might discourage future investments in the local tech industry, thereby stifling innovation and economic growth. Additionally, the Guild expressed worries that this suspension might pave the way for foreign payment solutions to dominate the financial system, leading to capital flight and increased dependence on external providers. APGA REJECTS CALL FOR STATE OF EMERGENCY IN OSUN, BLASTS SENATOR AJIBOLA BASIRU The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has strongly condemned the call by Senator Ajibola Basiru, the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in Osun State. In a statement issued by the State Chairman of APGA, Wole Adedoyin, the party expressed deep disappointment in Senator Basiru's statement, stating that such a call is unpatriotic and does not reflect the reality of governance in Osun State. The party accused Senator Basiru of playing politics with the security and welfare of the people of Osun, warning that such inflammatory statements could incite unnecessary tension and unrest. The party further noted that the APC-led federal government should focus on addressing the economic and security challenges facing Nigeria as a whole rather than targeting Osun State for political reasons. APGA insisted that governance should not be reduced to partisan propaganda aimed at discrediting opposition-led states. According to Wole Adedoyin, APGA views the call for a state of emergency as a desperate move by APC elements who are still struggling to come to with their loss in the last governorship election. He stressed that the people of Osun State have made their choice, and attempts to undermine that choice through undemocratic means will be resisted by all lovers of democracy. APGA urged the federal government to disregard Senator Basiru’s call and instead focus on ing the Osun State government in its developmental efforts. The party reiterated that Osun does not need political distractions but rather collective efforts towards good governance and economic development. Furthermore, APGA called on security agencies to remain professional and avoid being used as tools for political witch-hunts. The party also urged Osun residents to remain vigilant and reject any attempt to create an atmosphere of fear and instability in the state. The statement also challenged Senator Basiru and the APC leadership to provide concrete evidence of the so-called security threats warranting a state of emergency. APGA noted that such baseless calls only expose the desperation of those who refuse to accept democratic outcomes. APGA reaffirmed its commitment to democratic principles, good governance, and the collective interest of Osun citizens.
